Amazon.com There are many times when extra power is needed for your tools or accessories, but none is available. If an outlet is not in reach or plugging into the dashboard cigarette lighter is simply not an option, the Duracell Powerpack 600 is the perfect solution. Brought to you by Duracell and Xantrex, an innovator in portable and backup power products for nearly 25 years, it comes with a multitude of safety and emergency features, and is powerful enough to start your car and robust enough to provide portable power for small appliances. The Power to Get the Job Done Safely The heart of the Duracell Powerpack 600 is a sealed, non-spillable 28 amp-hour AGM battery. It can be safely and conveniently recharged from any household AC outlet or DC cigarette-lighter outlet, making it ready to go whenever you need it. This robust battery is tied to a power inverter that provides 600 watts of power to its three grounded AC outlets and one DC socket. Multiple outlets give you the flexibility and convenience to operate several appliances at once, while the 3-digit barragraph LED indicator dynamically monitors the Duracell Powerpack's battery charge level. Internal circuitry ensures long inverter life by protecting against overload and over-temperature conditions. An audible alarm also signals during overheating and under-voltage situations, alerting you to any possible safety concerns. The Duracell Powerpack 600 provides long lasting on-the-go power. View Larger | Duracell Powerpack 600 Protects You On the Go Duracell Powerpack's 28-amp battery can jump start most 8-cylinder engines with its included jumper cables. A reverse polarity detector further ensures your safety by disallowing power transfer in the event that the jumper cables are connected to the incorrect battery terminals. Duracell Powerpack 600 also provides ample power to recharge cordless and cellular telephones. At the same time, it can operate emergency lights, televisions and a wide range of DC-powered products. A built-in AM/FM clock-radio provides access to news and emergency broadcasts, while the built-in emergency light provides extra illumination to keep you out of the dark and to signal to others if you are stranded. Perfect for Outdoor Adventures From remote job sites to the family picnic, Duracell Powerpack's portability makes it an excellent choice for any outdoor adventure. It is mighty enough to run power tools and equipment in the wilderness. The 600-watt power inverter also lets you bring some of the comforts of home to your campsite or outing. Small appliances, portable coolers, laptops, televisions and gaming consoles will run for hours. Duracell Powerpack 600 means you'll never be left in the dark. Constructed by Industry Leaders Duracell is brand trusted in households around the world because of their high-quality, long-lasting batteries. The Duracell Powerpack 600 includes several convenient accessories. Compatible jumper cables allow you to jump start your vehicle. The AC adapter recharges the unit from any standard wall outlet and stows away inside the unit when not in use. A DC charging cable can be inserted into any standard cigarette-lighter outlet, providing rechargability on-the-go in any automobile, boat, or RV. A versatile accessory bag is also included for storage.

bought for husband June 27, 2009 R. Bond Bought this for my husband as a "do all" item. When power has to be shut off for him to make repairs, he can use the 110V for drop lights, and the such. The ability to charge either by 12 or 110 volt is a plus. So far, after a short ownership, everything seems to work as advertised. Will have to wait and see in 6 months or even a year down the road as to how it will hold up
Didn't work for me. June 20, 2009 lens 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm afraid this box didn't do the job. After charging for 3 days (1 day more than instructed by the manual), I ran a 65 Watt light bulb from one of the outlets. After only 13 minutes I got the low battery alarm. I tried charging for 2 more days and got the same result. I then called Xantrex tech support (Though the box is sold as Duracell, the tech support number in the manual is for Xantrex - BTW, kudos to them for having a real person answer the phone). They said I should try first charging from a car for 2 hours (I was using the AC adapter previously). I plugged it into my car lighter socket, but the charge light did not come on. It did light when AC charging, so I checked the battery voltage with a meter. The problem was that the battery read over 13V, so it was already higher than my car battery. That was enough trouble-shooting for me, so I returned the Powerpack today, before my return window with Amazon closed. Amazon paid for return shipping, so I'm still happy with them. I got free shipping with the purchase, so I'm out zero dollars.
Here's what I think is wrong with this product. Gel cells (the battery inside the Powerpack) can't sit for a long time in storage without charging because their internal resistance goes up (something called sulfation). When that happens the battery can seem fully charged, but it isn't because the resistance prevents it from really charging. I don't think these Powerpack products move out the door rapidly enough, so many sit in storage too long before being sold. If you are lucky, you'll get one that hasn't been stored too long and won't have a problem. Unfortunately for me, I wasn't lucky and I'm unwilling to spin the wheel again.
To Duracell/Xantrex: You need to fix this problem by switching to a battery type that doesn't have these basic weakness. Lithium batteries would be ideal. It would raise the price of the box, but it would be worth it because you could get more power in the same size with less weight. Also consider that far fewer Powerpacks would be returned. That's got to save you some cash, yes? I'm ready to buy a Lithium powered one, even at $200, but don't make me wait too long.
Silent Portable Generator June 11, 2009 San Luis Painting (San Luis Obispo, Ca USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
WOW, This one is amazing. I often have to run a generator for my work. It is noisy, gas burning and basically a pain to lug around to various jobsites. I really put this one through the ringer to see which tools would refuse to use the clean silent power. I have been astounded. I connected it to my little Airless Sprayer assuming that it would just draw too many amps and trigger the power pack to protect it from a large amp draw. I was astonished that it powered the pump with no problem. Even better I pumped 7 gallons through it and the power pack was still on 40%. Drills, Sanders, Grinders, Even my Shop Vac were all individually tested to find the limits of this "generator replacement." The shop vac really draws the battery down fast but I am amazed it even allowed it to start. I have had other inverters rated at 800w that wouldn't power even the sander, (Its not the palm one either, It is the big 8" random orbit.) Worth Every Penny and Now I can dump my old 1200w generator at a garage sale. Super Power Super Long Life. SMART charging. Really Wonderful. I will be adding a Solar panel soon so I may Honestly claim "Solar Powered Painting".

Five saves and still running June 9, 2009 Rodney Satterwhite (Richmond, Virginia United States) I have just walked back into my office after using this product to jump start a vehicle for the fifth time. It has been (for me at least) a lifesaver. The first time I needed it, my vehicle was pulled head first into my garage and I couldn't have reached it with my jumper cables. The battery had died and we were on our way out the door, and I was able to hook this up in a matter of 60 seconds and got the car started. I was ultimately able to jump start my car a total of 3 times that day from a single charge, and my car is a beast (5.6 liter V-8) to start.
I have also used it to start my wife's car, and two others. It has been incredibly convenient and useful.
I have not run it all the way down, so I haven't encountered some of the problems that the more critical reviewers have experienced. I have, however used it during power outages to run lamps and such (to my dismay, it wouldn't handle the amp pull of the coffee maker, but what do you expect - it's still just a battery)and it has performed flawlessly. I love having the option of keeping this in the house to run lamps and minor appliances, and being able to use my gas generator for refrigerators and such.
This has been a great addition to my disaster prep efforts. I am seriously considering buying another one of these to keep in my wife's car, since we could easily pull it into the house in the event of a power outage.
Good product June 8, 2009 M. McDowell (Boston) I purchased the Duracell Powerpack 600 three months ago. Since then I have used it to jump started my van with a big 5.7L engine four times (I finally tracked down the short that was causing the van battery to discharge). I have also used the AC and DC outlets for various tasks like powering my laptop and running an electric drill. I read all of the negative comments before buying the Powerpack. For the most part I think they had unrealistic expectations about the Powerpack. Of course it is just a deep cycle AGM battery in a convenient shell. You'll be happier if, before buying this product, you Google "deep cycle battery" to learn what to expect and how to care for the battery. I think the price is right and I would recommend this product to a friend. Oh yes, the radio really is a joke.
